  • Upgraded search indexing to native Elastic-search indexing (vs. Bing) for more control over results.

  • Produced Matterport 3D/VR tour of the Advanced Quantum Testbed.

  • Directed development and implementation of native social media share feature (Open Graph tagging) across SilverStripe websites.

  • Built out new historical timeline: History of Computational Sciences and Applied Mathematics at Berkeley Lab.

  • Customized Youtube channel and created more new and improved content leading to 784% more views, 3.5x more watch time, and 10x subscriber increase year-over-year.

  • Represented the Computing Sciences Area in the development of the Berkeley Lab Design System.

Research, pitch, write, fact-check and take photos for science and technology features with eye-catching viewpoints and solid quality. Covering a beat that ranged from the Internet to cosmology, medical research to the environment and beyond, I wrote about the research behind obesity drugs, technological believers who desire to be “better than human,” mounting pollution from plastic shopping bags and the dwindling genetic diversity of farm animals. My work appeared the 22 Newhouse-owned newspapers (including the Portland Oregonian, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Newark Star-Ledger) and was picked up by other news outlets (including the Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and MSNBC Online).

As part of the start-up team, I helped define and build this early online news service's programming, policies, and voice. Chaired editorial ethics committee that produced (possibly the first ever) online newsgathering ethics policy.
